Aksel Valdemar Jensen, 92, of Kearney, Nebraska, formerly of Cozad and Gothenburg, died April 2, 2017 in Kearney, NE.
He was born October 22, 1924 on the family farm northeast of Cozad, NE, son of T.C. Jensen and Anna Jensen. He graduated from high school in 1943 and continued his lifetime of farming and love of the land. Aksel married Gwendolyn H Maline on Nov 28, 1956; to this union two daughters were born- Jane and Carol. Gwen preceded him in death in 1989.
Aksel retired from farming and moved to Gothenburg in 1990. On April 17, 1990 he married Betty Grunden Slack; they lived in Gothenburg until 2003 when they moved to Kearney. He enjoyed Danish heritage and history and was a member of the Danish Lutheran Brotherhood. Aksel enjoyed World War II history. He also enjoyed putting together puzzles.
Surviving are daughter, Carol (Jim) Phillips of Running Springs, CA, daughter, Jane (Gary) Marshall of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren - Sarah Marshall and Ben Marshall; his cousin Erna Jensen; sister-in-law Bonnie Maline; numerous nieces and nephews; in addition, he is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren he shared with Betty; including Lavern "Don" and Janice Gaudreault of Keystone, NE.
Aksel was preceded in death by first wife, Gwendolyn Jensen, second wife, Betty Jensen, and his parents.
Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, April 6, 2017, 1:00 pm - 7:00 pm. with family present from 4 to 6.
Services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Friday, April 7, 2017 at 10:30 am.
Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
