Biography

Doris Aileene Hirsch 87, of Gothenburg, NE died on September 14, 2007 at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital in Gothenburg. Doris Aileene Hirsch was born on March 2, 1920 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Robert G. and Dora Belle (Morton) Lynch. She grew up at Roseland, Nebraska attending Roseland Public Schools. After graduating High School Aileene attended Hastings College double majoring in music and art. In 1941 she received a bachelor's degree in both. In the spring of 1943 Aileene entered the US Navy. She attended boot camp at Hunter College in New York City. After boot camp Aileene took six months of advanced training in music at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and was then stationed at the Navy base in New London, CT. She served as an assistant to the Navy Chaplain. On October 28, 1947 Aileene married Harlen Arthur Hirsch. To this union three children were born Victoria, Valerie and Gregory. Aileene worked as an Educator and Principal teaching in Clovis, New Mexico, Anselmo-Merna, and Gothenburg Public Schools. She also taught and was Principal at 100-R Elementary School. Aileene was involved in the Community Playhouse, was a 4-H Club Leader, was involved in the Cancer Support Group, Dance Club, and Extension Club, was a Senior Center Volunteer and served on its governing board. She enjoyed sewing and creating porcelain dolls, but her favorite passion was music. She enjoyed playing the piano and used her talents as the Choir Director at the American Lutheran Church and also helped with Wings. She was also very proud of being Mrs. Senior Nebraska in 1991. Aileene is survived by her son Gregory Lynn (Robin) Hirsch of Gothenburg, NE; daughters Victoria Lue (Gary) Boyer of LaCygne, KS and Valerie Kay (Bradley) Brooks of Orange County, CA; seven grandchildren Terri (Brad) Morrow, Heath (Margaret) Mann, Brandon (Andrea) Mann, Trent (Kristi) Hovie, Tracy Hovie, Jobey Brooks, Ryan Boyer and Regan Boyer; and eight great-grandchildren Taylor, Paul, Sydney, Suzannah, Ellen, Madelyn, Lillian, and Talan. She was preceded in death by her husband Harlen A. Hirsch, her parents Robert G. and Dora Belle Lynch and her sister Madelyn Tewes. Visitation will be held Monday, September 17, from 1:00pm until 8:00pm with the family present from 6-7 pm at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 10:00am at the American Lutheran Church, Gothenburg, Nebraska, with Pastor Matthew Groenke officiating. Burial will take place in the Ft.
