Mary Aileen Mathieu, 96, of Gothenburg, NE, died March 6, 2013 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, NE.

Mary Aileen Kinyon was born September 17, 1916 in Gothenburg, NE, daughter of Daniel Lee and Oi Cleo (Greene) Kinyon. She attended Gothenburg grade and high school. She was a graduate of the Gothenburg High School class of 1934 as their Valedictorian. Aileen then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University graduating in 1939. She taught vocal music at Sterling, NE from1939 to 1940.

On September 4, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lewis G. Mathieu. This union was blessed with a son, Lewis G. Mathieu, Jr. They made their home in Gothenburg until moving to Holdrege where they lived for 20 years before moving back to Gothenburg. Aileen was past President of UMW in Holdrege; President Mother's Club in Holdrege; President of the Gothenburg Women's Club 1955-56; and other offices in UMW.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Sharron Mathieu of Gothenburg; two granddaughters Merilee Parks of Gothenburg, NE and Shari Murer of Lincoln, NE; grandson William Mathieu of Lincoln, NE; great-granddaughter Heidi (Jared) Bussing of Omaha, NE; great-grandsons Joseph and Zachary Murer of Grand Island, NE; great-great granddaughters Wren and Sophia Bussing, great-great grandson Devin Bussing all of Omaha, NE; and many more relatives and friends.

Aileen was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Gaulden Mathieu, her parents Daniel Lee and Oi Cleo Kinyon, her son Lewis Gaulden Mathieu Jr., and her sister Dorothy French.

Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, NE; Friday, March 8, 2013 from 1:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, March 9, 2013 at 10:30 am with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, NE..
