William T. Hutchinson, 86, of Gothenburg, NE, formerly of Albuquerque, NM, died March 14, 2015 at Stone Hearth Estates in Gothenburg.
Bill was born in East Orange, New Jersey to William T. and Ethel R. Hutchinson on June 13, 1928. Bill was an intelligent and mischievous child, who loved being outdoors and being active. He had a hunger for knowledge and an independent spirit. While serving in the military, he became a top French‐English-German interpreter. He worked at the American Embassy in Bonn, for Military Intelligence, and for the Army-setting up the first Army Drug and Alcohol Counseling Centers in Germany. He also earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees. After 30 years in Europe he returned to the United States, making his home in Albuquerque, NM. Bill began working at the University of New Mexico as a therapist and teacher. He traveled around the United States and took photographs of his travels‐‐of the wild spaces; the abandoned homes and businesses; the churches of the Southwest, the Northwest, and the Midwest; and the trees and canyons with their graceful and fierce beauty. His photos were his spiritual expressions and he printed the best ones, and humbly gave them as gifts to the people he loved and cared about.
Bill is survived by his son, Matthew G. Hutchinson of Butler, PA; two daughters, Barbara (Jim) J. Wilkinson of Curtis, NE; and Caren R. Hutchinson of Denver, CO; his sister, Elizabeth (Ray) Hutchinson Boedecker of Poughkeepsie, NY and grandchildren; Matthew, Jennifer, Justin, Tara, and Maegan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Private family services will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE.
